The state of Colorado spans diverse scenery of arid desert, river canyons and snow-covered Rocky Mountains. As one of the most beautiful states in North America, it is full of gorgeous hiking trails for hikers of all levels.
With 42 state parks, 12 national parks and monuments, 13 national forests and grasslands and 58 peaks that rise more than 14,000 feet above sea level, Colorado is not short of great hiking opportunities!
All the various state and national parks offer endless options for novice or experienced hikers. Each visitor center provides excellent trail maps and advice for all levels. Here is a website that we like to refer to which lists the top 100 hikes in Colorado – as you can see there is never a shortage of options!
Remember that before going on any hike it is important to have adequate water, sunscreen, enough clothing and layers for changing conditions and a good map. Clothing is extremely important for hiking and the choice of the material is key. For example, protect your feet by getting 100% merino wool material that will help keep your feet cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Contrary to cotton, wool retains warmth even when wet and dries faster.
